In the past few years, weddings have become overly commercialized. People believe that they have to have the biggest, best and most expensive wedding in order to stand out from the crowd. However, that is not the case. Many people can have a personal and individualized wedding without spending thousands and putting each other in debt. If you are planning a wedding and worried about going over budget, here are a few things you can do in advance to ensure that you don’t end up overspending.

The first thing to do when planning a wedding is to set a budget. When planning a wedding it can be easy to get caught up in the hype and overspend, and in some cases places that specialize in weddings will try to get you to overspend as it places more money in their pocket. To avoid overspending it is important to place a budget on every part of the wedding. Sit down with your significant other and determine exactly how much you will spend on food, decorations, flowers, event location, and dresses. This will give you a guideline on what you can spend or what you should spend when planning your wedding.

The second thing to consider when planning a wedding is who you wish to invite. Many couples feel they have to invite every person they have ever met in their entire life. However, this can end up costing the couple a lot and can make a small event turn into a huge affair. Try to limit your guest list to those you really want to spend your special day with, as this will not only make the event special but will help you save money. Sitting down with someone who specializes in weddings can help you determine who to invite and who to leave off of the guest list.

The last thing to consider when planning a wedding is the location. Many couples have a dream location, but that location might not always be realistic. Try to visit several wedding locations before making a decision on where to have your wedding, as this will allow you to see what is available. A wedding planner can help you find several locations that host weddings, and help schedule a time for you to visit or tour the location. Remember you only get married once, so the location you will pick will be a very big part of the wedding.
