When most people hear the term rugs, they automatically think of area rugs and commercially produced rugs. While those are quite popular, some unique rugs are also popular. These unique rugs include rugs made on a loom, handmade woven rugs, and some antique rugs. You should never clean those rugs using rug cleaning machines because most consist of spinning brushes or heads. Those wire or metal brushes might become trapped around the fibers of the rug, causing damage such as ripping or tearing. The best method of cleaning those rugs is by hand. Take extreme caution during the cleaning phase and you will ensure that your rug lasts for decades.

Oriental Rug Care uses a special process for cleaning these unique rugs that will not damage the material. The process begins with a handheld vacuum complete with an attached nozzle. The cleaner runs the nozzle over the rug, removing any dust, dirt, hair, and other debris from the surface. The power of the suction also pulls debris out that is trapped inside the fibers of the rug. As you walk across the rug, you push that debris further into the fibers. Vacuuming is just one part of the rug cleaning process.

The next step involves mild shampoo. The cleaner mixes the mild shampoo with cold water and tests the product on the rug. The product must not affect the fibers in any way or cause any type of discoloration. If the mild shampoo works, then it goes in a small tub next to the rug. The cleaner dips a soft brush into the mixture and rugs that mixture on the rug. By using a soft brush and a gentle hand, the cleaner ensures that he does not ruin your rug. The cleaner uses additional shampoo as needed to remove stains and smells while doing the rug cleaning.

Thoroughly rinsing the shampoo off the rug is an equally important step. The cleaner must use only a small amount of water because too much moisture might damage the rug. Depending on the strength of the rug, the cleaner might only use the suds from the mixture, rather than the mixture itself. After rinsing the rug, it must dry for several hours or overnight. Slow drying of the rug keeps the fibers from shrinking. Using rug cleaning professionals like Oriental Rug Care is easier and yields better results than cleaning the rug at home.
