Event management is a lot like project management. It’s basically just the creation and the development of events. This can include any special even, festivals, weddings or conferences. No matter what size the event is or where or when it will take place, the event manager has a lot to take care of. It’s their job to put all of the ideas in motion and to see them carried out. They are responsible for making the event a success. If the event doesn’t go well then it reflects poorly on them. They won’t get as much business if they have a reputation for messing things up.
People who do event management first have to decide who the target audience is. This one thing will affect every decision they make throughout the planning of the event. For instance, they wouldn’t order a big bouncy castle for an elegant wedding. That just wouldn’t fit the target audience. Once the target audience is decided then the real work can begin. They will start scheduling and booking everything.
Another important aspect in the industry of event management is the post-event analysis of their performance. If they do a poor job then they might have to return some of the money that was paid to them. This insures a really good event and it helps to insure a satisfaction guarantee. Having this guarantee is sometimes why some planners are chosen over others. People like to know that if they don’t get their money’s worth, then they don’t have to pay the money!
People in event management can plan anything. They can plan for something as huge as the Olympics to something as small as a breakfast meeting. The events that are planned are sometimes just for entertainment or to celebrate. They can also be for marketing or to raise money for different organizations. They can definitely also be used just to build business relationships.
The people working in event management are kept very busy. They are in charge of client service, site surveying, brief clarification, the cash flow management, the budget, the supply chain and identification, the scheduling, website design, health and safety, etc. That doesn’t even cover all of the things that they’re responsible for. Once they’re closer to the actual event there are some more important things that they are supposed to take care of. Some of those are crowd management, sound, lighting, video, the detailed schedule and security.
