Subliminal messages has been used ages. Chances are that you have seen several subliminal messages in your life time and have not even noticed that you have witnessed them. Subliminal messages come in many forms, and one of the most popular uses for subliminal messages is in the use of advertising. Advertisers place subliminal messages into the slogans or pictures of their products all the time. It is how advertisers are able to make a certain product more appealing with consumers without making changes that are blatantly obvious. One of the most common uses of subliminal messages in the use of advertising is to add sex appeal to a certain product. Sex appeal has been used in advertising since the dawn of time and is still used today. Just watch a beer commercial and in more chances than not, there is some sort of sex appeal being used in the commercial whether it is subliminal or out in the open.

Subliminal messages have been located in all sorts of things besides advertisement ads though. It has been said that subliminal messages were used to recruit young men for the military. They have also apparently been used in objects such as currency, printed on paper money and coins. Subliminal messages have also been reported movie posters and in single splices of film in certain movies. In the 1950’s it was reported that first official use of subliminal messages in movies was used when a man by the name of James Vicary flashed the words “eat popcorn” and “drink coke” briefly throughout the movie. It was reported that sales of popcorn went up over fifty percent and coke purchases went up nearly twenty percent.

After it was proven that subliminal messages did in fact work, consumers felt in general that subliminal messages were immoral and unacceptable, soon subliminal messaging died down for the time being then made its appearance again around the 1970’s where it became more and more common to subliminal messages in alcohol ads and cigarettes ads. Soon after, advertisers of all types started looking into using subliminal messages in advertising.
Subliminal messages are still used today. There are a few internet sites that show products and movie posters that you most likely have already seen a hundred times. Then they take the product, ad, or poster and flip it on its side or upside down and then zoom in on a select area of the unit and you can undoubtedly that there are in fact subliminal messages in different forms in products and items you probably see every day.
