Flat roof roofing is just what it sounds like. If the roof of a building or establishment is completely flat on top, then it is considered to be flat roof roofing. While it’s not the most popular or practical roofing architecture, there are many benefits to having a flat roof.

However, before you decide to install a flat roof onto your home or business building, there are a few things you need to take into consideration.

There are several different types of flat roof roofing. Asphalt roofs are the most popular. They provide a healthy amount of insulation, but most importantly the asphalt absorbs heat from the sun, making it an ideal material to use in hot and humid settings. Another type of flat roof material is Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, or EPDM. EPDM is a sort of synthetic rubber that also provides great insulations on roofs. It can be applied in a number of different ways. With new technology, EPDM can even be melted and used as a sealant for roofs and walls to keep water, bugs, and other wildlife at a safe distance.

A number of other roofing materials and agents are available. Most of them involve a heat applied method that melts the material to the roof itself, but there are other ways to bond a roof to walls. Cold applied liquid membranes don’t take any heat or melting to ensure a solid bond and seal to the roof. These membranes are becoming more and more popular for new roofing jobs.

Flat roof roofing is not a risk free method. It is important to note that every roofing method involves some form of rise, and flat roof roofing is no different. Flat roof roofing is not ideal for buildings that receive a lot of human traffic. Because the roof is generally created to be one long piece of roofing, any crack in the surface of the roof may easily lead to leaks or further damage. Also, since cracks in the surface are susceptible to more breakage, these types of roofs are fairly difficult to do maintenance on. When repairs or other sorts of construction and renovations need to be made, it is hard to correct any damage that may be done to the roof. One way to avoid this issue is to install rooftop gardens to the roof. These gardens and plant not only provide a way for buildings to restore some of the nature that they currently take up, but they create a bond on the roof that makes it much more difficult to break.
