Regularly grooming your cat is important to feline health. A glossy, soft coat is a sign of good health and well-being. Grooming not only makes your cat look nice, but it also helps your pet ward off skin diseases and parasites. Following some cat grooming tips can keep your cat looking and feeling its best. While it is true cats do some grooming on their own, they need your help to prevent fur balls, matted hair and to keep their eyes and ears in good shape. Pet lovers want to keep their pets healthy and happy so they can live a long happy life.

For cats, hairballs are a common concern, especially in cats with long hair. Brushing your cat regularly, helps reduce the occurrence of hairballs. Following a few cat grooming tips like brushing your short-haired cat once a week with a fine tooth comb or natural bristle brush to reduce the risk of hairballs, keep your pet healthy. Brush long hair cats two to three times a week, unless it lives outdoors, then brush the hair daily. You will need a wire-bristle brush and a fine-tooth flea comb when grooming cats with long hair. Start by removing any tangles or matting and then brushing.

Cats generally do not require bathing because they keep themselves very clean However, there are a few cat grooming tips to keep in mind about bathing. Only bathe a cat when absolutely necessary. Only bathe your cat if it needs a flea or tick treatment, has poison on its fur or you are allergic and need to remove allergens. When bathing the cat always use a mild soap or a cat shampoo. Make sure you rinse the fur thoroughly and towel-dry the hair as much as possible. Keep the cat away from drafts until the fur is completely dry because cats are susceptible to colds.

Brushing your cat and keeping its coat free of fleas helps protect the animal from parasites, like roundworms that can be ingested by eating fleas. A healthy, shiny coat means a healthy animal and having a good grooming brush helps you reduce hairballs and keeps the coat tangle free. For most cat owners the feline becomes a member of the family and needs the same care as others in the household. Following some simple cat grooming tips help you ensure your furry friend is at its best and will be part of your family for many years.
